A Special Performance by The Harrison's

We are sorry that the Harrison's performance was cancelled last Friday. The weather called for showers and possible lightning and they decided not to chance it. Unfortunately, they are booked for weekends the rest of the summer, however, they found they can come back and gave us a date of Wednesday 7/26 at 7:00. This will be our first music night during the week, however, they are special and a crowd favorite. So put it on your calendar and hope to see everyone there.

Lake Treatment

Lake Treatment information.

Lake Management Sciences conducted a survey of the lake today. They reported back that the lake is in great health for the time of the year. They have treated areas of the lake with their Sonar treatment. This will reduce the number of weeds and start to go after the lilypads. More targeted lilypad treatments will be conducted during future surveys. The only water use restriction for this treatment is to not use the lake water for irrigation for 30 days. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not reach out to LMS directly, but email lake.resources@crandonlakes.org. LMS has reported the water temperature at 68 degrees! Time to go swimming! Thank you all and enjoy this beautiful weather

Upcoming Garage Sales

Not one, not two, but THREE Community Garage Sales are coming up!

Crandon Lakes is pleased to announce that we will be hosting 3 garage sales this season. One in the spring, one in the summer and one in the fall. This should give all our residents the opportunity to participate.

The first one will be held from May 19-20-21. May 20- 21 is also one of the dates that Stillwater Township will also be having their Garage Sale.

The summer and fall garage sale dates will be posted when the recreation committee sets up their calendar and those dates will be posted when the CLCC newsletter is sent out.

Lake Refill

Information on the lake refill.

The lake will begin to be refilled on March 15th as per our DEP permit. We expect the lake to return to normal levels fairly quickly. Our new lake management consultant has recommended that lakefront owners rake away as much leaf debris and other organic matter off the receded shoreline as they can before the refill begins. Thank you all for your patience with this year's lake lowering. We are looking forward to a wonderful summer (right around the corner!)

Lake Ecology Partnership Projects

The Lake Resource Committee has been actively working with Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA), Wallkill Watershed Management Group, and the Paulins Kill Watershed Management Group on the following projects.

The Lake Resource Committee has been actively working with Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA), Wallkill Watershed Management Group, and the Paulins Kill Watershed Management Group to secure grants for our lake as well as work on educational opportunities for residents. Currently, they have the following events coming up that we encourage lake residents to attend.

Emerald Ash Borer Training Event: March 8, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (virtual training via Zoom)

Lake residents can learn about emerald ash borer infestation and treatment options as well as their eligibility for a free replacement balled and burlapped tree through grant funding secured by the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group.

Homeowner Rain Garden Rebate Program: March 22 from 12:00-1:00 and also 7:00-8:00 (virtual workshop via Zoom)

On March 22, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group is partnering with Rutgers Water Resources Program to host a virtual homeowner rain garden training program where Paulins Kill Watershed lake community residents will learn about the use of rain gardens for stormwater management and then have an opportunity to work one-on-one with Rutgers engineers and landscape architects to have a customized rain garden design plan created for their homes (just like we did at Culver Lake in 2019).  The one-on-one sessions will be hosted virtually on April 5th, but attendance at one of the two March 22nd preliminary trainings is required in order to receive a free customized rain garden design plan for their property.

Registration link for both events: https://forms.gle/hVgWV5nHpJTjVErD6

If anyone has difficulty registering online, they can always RSVP directly to our Education and Outreach Specialist, Kristine Rogers by phone or email at 973-579-6998 ext. 110 or krogers@scmua.org

Lily Pad Treatment

Information on the latest lake treatment.

We received a lily pad treatment of roundup custom in the cove areas today (9/27). There are no water use restrictions but we ask that everyone avoid boating in these areas for the next 24-48 hours. Although late in the season, this treatment will help us get a jump start on next year as the treatment is systemic.

Again, we appreciate your patience through this difficult season.

Lifeguard Certification

LMCC is opening up their annual re certification training for Lifeguards to COLA members again this year.  We have received some inquiries on when we would be holding these. Attached is the schedule.

Please click here to view the schedule. The cost to COLA members will be about $80 per person. This program is open to COLA members only. Documentation from the member lake attesting that the lifeguard is employed by them and covered by Workman's Compensation will be needed.

Lifeguards should also bring a copy of their certification and photo ID. Checks should be made payable to Lake Mohawk Country Club. Pre registration is required. We ask for COLA members to make a first and second choice as LMCC staff will have preference.

A Google Form Sign Up list will be sent out on Monday, April 18th by Derek where managers can sign up their staff.  For those interested in sending their Lifeguards, please email Derek Pivko at lmccwaterfront@gmail.com.

By the end of the month, we should also have a schedule for basic certification classes in Waterfront Lifeguarding and our In-Service Training schedule. As soon as it is developed, we'll forward to you for COLA.

As always, please never hesitate to contact me should you need further information.
