Lake Ecology Partnership Projects

The Lake Resource Committee has been actively working with Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA), Wallkill Watershed Management Group, and the Paulins Kill Watershed Management Group to secure grants for our lake as well as work on educational opportunities for residents. Currently, they have the following events coming up that we encourage lake residents to attend.

Emerald Ash Borer Training Event: March 8, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (virtual training via Zoom)

Lake residents can learn about emerald ash borer infestation and treatment options as well as their eligibility for a free replacement balled and burlapped tree through grant funding secured by the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group.

Homeowner Rain Garden Rebate Program: March 22 from 12:00-1:00 and also 7:00-8:00 (virtual workshop via Zoom)

On March 22, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group is partnering with Rutgers Water Resources Program to host a virtual homeowner rain garden training program where Paulins Kill Watershed lake community residents will learn about the use of rain gardens for stormwater management and then have an opportunity to work one-on-one with Rutgers engineers and landscape architects to have a customized rain garden design plan created for their homes (just like we did at Culver Lake in 2019).  The one-on-one sessions will be hosted virtually on April 5th, but attendance at one of the two March 22nd preliminary trainings is required in order to receive a free customized rain garden design plan for their property.
